At 1st January 2014, France counted 65.8 million residents (not including Mayotte): 11.6% of them were born in another country, 8.9% were immigrants and 6.4% were of foreign nationality. In the years 2006-2013 the total population of France increased by 2.6 million, with the number of French nationals growing by 2.1 million. The number of immigrants, who are not all foreign nationals, increased by 700,000. As a proportion of the total population the number of immigrants grew by 0.8 points between 2006 and 2014.
