Women and men faced with violence – Women are more often victims of a close relation
or their partner
In 2010 and 2011, 2.2 million people aged 18 to 75 suffered physical or sexual violence. Men were victims of rape and other sexual attacks much less often than women. Young adults and single parents are more exposed to all forms of violence. For one male victim of violence out of two, the perpetrator is unknown. In contrast, three-quarters of female victims of violence know their aggressor. In particular, among 30% of them the attacker is their partner or ex-partner. This domestic violence is rarely followed by a complaint, particularly in cases of sexual violence.
