Objectifs :

The purpose of this survey is to observe the situation of people on the job market, in both a structural and economic manner. It is an integral part of the "Labour Forces" surveys defined by the European Union.

This is the only source that provides a measurement of concepts of activity, unemployment and inactivity as defined by the International Labour Office (ILO).

It is used to respond to the "Labour Forces" survey conducted by the Statistical Office of the European Communities (EUROSTAT).

The survey focuses on employment, unemployment, training, prior professional activity, social origin, the situation in March of the previous year and the main monthly situation over the past twelve months.

Période et mode de collecte :

The collection is carried out via face-to-face interviews in the dwellings and the responses are entered into computers. If one person cannot (or does not want to) respond, another person in the household can do so on his or her behalf.

Historique :

The survey was first carried out in 1950.

Plan de sondage :

The scope of the survey is restricted to ordinary households (excluding hostels, barracks, etc.) and the sample is renewed by a third each year.

The 75,000 dwellings surveyed are derived from a stratified sample (21 regions X 10 categories of municipalities).
