Objectifs :

The purpose of the survey of the production of non-hazardous waste by industrial establishments is to estimate national production of non-hazardous waste by industrial establishments (including agri-food industries) reporting on the year n-1, by physical volume and classed by type of waste and by sector of activity.

It serves to meet European regulation n° 2150/2005 on waste statistics.

Thèmes abordés :

The questionnaire includes 3 sections:

- the first part requires background information relating to the scope of the survey (activity, numbers);

- the second part requires qualitative information on waste management and the importance of environmental concerns for the establishment. This provides qualitative insight into the figures required in the third part:

- the third part requires tonnages according to the type of waste, as well as information on its collection and its processing. It is broken down into three sub-sections on non-hazardous slurry and organic waste, mixed non-hazardous waste,  and non-hazardous sorted waste.

The survey covers the establishment of 10 employees or more and establishments with NAF code belonging to sections B, C, D.
The sample is approximately as big as 10,000 units including 1,850 units belonging to the Food industries.

Périodicité de l'opération :

The survey is conducted every four years. The last survey was conducted in 2009 (reporting on 2008).

Période et mode de collecte :

Internet with the possibility of sending by mail upon request. The collection takes place from September to December n + 1.

Historique :

This survey follows on from other surveys, notably the one conducted in 2005 on 2004 by the Environment and Energy Management Agency (Ademe) and the French Institute for the Environment (Ifen), on practically the whole industrial field.
In 2007 (reporting on 2006), the survey of production of non-hazardous waste by industrial business sectors was conducted by the Industrial Studies and Statistics Service (Sessi) of the Ministry for Industry.From 2009 (reporting on 2008 and 2012), the survey is carried out by INSEE :  by the industrial statistics division for 2008 and by he national business statistics department of the Regional Directorate of Normandy in 2012

Plan de sondage :

The frame of the survey is the Sirus directory (directory of statistical units).
The sampling method: stratification by industry and by local unit size.
The survey is exhaustive for establishments with 250 or more employees (approximately 1,800 establishments).

Autres spécifications :

This themed survey only deals with non-hazardous waste. Data on hazardous waste is obtained by consulting the annual  administrative declarations for hazardous waste fulfilled by establishments (database on directory polluting emissions directory : BDREP).
