Unemployment Insurance Benefits

Definition

Unemployment insurance benefits guarantee a replacement income to people who are involuntarily unemployed or who resign for a legitimate legitimate reason, and registered with « France Travail ».

They must have worked for at least six months during a 24-month reference period (PRA) (36 months for those aged 53 or older in 2024, with the age requirement rising to 55 starting April 1, 2025) prior to the end of their employment contract.

For benefits becoming effective as of February 2023, individuals receive benefits for a period equivalent to 75% of the duration between the first and last day of employment during the PRA (with non-working days counted up to a limit of 75% of working days). The compensated period may not be less than a minimum of 6 months nor exceed a maximum of 18 months for those under 53, 22.5 months for those aged 53–54, and 27 months for those aged 55 or older. In April 2025, these age limits for the senior track were shifted by 2 years and are thus set at 55 and 57 years, respectively.

The gross amount of the daily allowance is determined by applying the replacement rate to the reference daily wage.
