The Doctorate is a national degree leading to the level “bac+8” which validates a period of training in and by research and which comprises individual or collective production of original scientific works.
It comprises individual or collective production of original scientific works. The access to this training is conditional on obtaining a Master’s degree or equivalent, at the end of a training path establishing the ability to research. The Doctorate diploma is awarded after the defence of a thesis or the presentation of a group of original scientific works. This qualification is deemed as professional experience in research. This diploma differs from the thesis defended in order to obtain the degree of Doctor of Medicine, Dentistry or Pharmacy.
It is therefore classified at level I in the French classification of education levels and at level 8 in the international standard one (ISCED 2011).
