Définition
The concept of employment status distinguishes the self-employed from other employees. It applies only to the employed population.
The self-employed are distinguished by the fact that they are not legally subordinate to a principal and do not have an employment contract.
This employment status can be broken down further:
Employees:
- Breakdown by contract: permanent contracts, fixed-term contracts (excluding work-study), temporary work, work-study (apprenticeship, professional training contract), other types of contract.
or
- Breakdown by type of employer: civil service (State, local authorities, hospital civil service) or private sector.
Self-employed:
- On the one hand, there are the ‘non-salaried’, i.e. traditional sole traders, company majority managers or micro-entrepreneurs, who are affiliated to a social protection scheme for non-salaried workers;
- On the other hand, salaried managers, who are treated as salaried employees for social security purposes.
