Définition

Classifications of activities and products have mainly been drawn up to facilitate the organisation of economic and social information. Theirs is therefore essentially a statistical purpose. When they are used for administrative management purposes, this original purpose should be borne in mind: the type of units taken into account, the method for determining the main activity, the methods of aggregation and the principles of construction are closely linked to the objectives of statistical information.

The classifications currently used are :

  1. for the classification of activities :
    • on the international level, the ISIC ;
    • on the European level, the NACE ;
    • on the French level, the NAF.
  2. for the classification of products :
    • on the international level, the CPC ;
    • on the European level, the CPA ;
    • on the French level, the CPF ;
  3. for production surveys :
    • on the European level, the PRODCOM ;
    • on the French level, the PROFRA.
  4. for foreign trade :
    • on the international level, the HS ;
    • on the European level, the CN ;
    • on the French level, the NGP.
