Définition

Offences against narcotics legislation reported by the police and gendarmerie services concern the use, resale, trafficking and consumption of narcotics.

The statistics concern the acts (arrests for use of narcotics) and not the individuals.

Unlike certain countries in the European Union (Belgium, Spain, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands), French legislation makes no distinction between "soft" drugs (cannabis, etc.) and "hard" drugs that rapidly cause physical and mental addiction (heroin, LSD, etc.).
