Définition
An employment zone (Labour Market Area) is a geographical area within which most of the working population lives and works, and in which establishments can find most of the labour needed to fill the jobs on offer.
The division into employment zones is a territorial division suitable for local labour market studies. It is used as a reference for disseminating localised unemployment rates and employment estimates. The zoning also defines relevant territories for local diagnoses and can guide the delimitation of territories for the implementation of territorial policies initiated by public authorities or local players. This zoning is defined for both mainland France and the French overseas departments. The updated breakdown is based on the commuting flows of working people observed in the 2016 census.
