Définition

The purpose of the Labour cost index (LCI) is to reflect the changes in the hourly cost of labour of the salaried workforce, taking into account all elements of cost (wages and charges). Broken down into sector of activity (Industry, Construction, Tertiary sector) and harmonized at the European level, the LCI provides quarterly details of fluctuations in remuneration, social security contributions and taxes and charges based on companies' payroll. Since 2009, this indication covers the public sector besides the not agricultural trade sector. The Eurostat website provides equivalent indices for other countries in the European Union.
