Définition
In the sense of industrial property, a trademark is a "sign" which precisely distinguishes the products or services of a business organisation from those of its competitors. This sign may be a word, a name, a slogan, a logo, a design, etc., or a combination of these.
By registering its trademark with the French National Industrial Property Institute (INPI), the registrant obtains a monopoly of use on the French territory for 10 years, which may be renewed indefinitely. The registrant is the only entity allowed to use it and may defend itself by taking legal action against any person who, among other things, imitates or uses the trademark. There are several ways of applying for trademark protection.
