As the Share project aims to cover multiple themes and enable comparison, it is managed by two entities.

International teams are responsible for developing questionnaires (choice of themes and definition of harmonised methodologies); national teams implement the survey in the field.

The survey is ex ante harmonised and is therefore common to all the participant countries. Coordinated on a European level, the Share survey is characterised by this unique methodology and synchronised collection.

The survey features three sections:

- a standard questionnaire written in English and translated into the language of each participant country;
- cognitive and physical tests (e.g. memory test and grip strength) ;
- a self-administered paper questionnaire.
