April 2024 · n° 324Portrait of professions in France in 2022
Over 40 years, the combined share of farmers and labourers has decreased by nearly half, while that of managers has almost tripled. Basic tertiary employees remain the largest socio‑professional category; three‑quarters of them are women and part-time work is widespread, especially in unskilled positions. Farmers and craftmen, shopkeepers, and business leaders work more and more often on atypical schedules than other professions. Among employees, basic tertiary employees are the most likely to work at weekends, whereas labourers are more likely to work nights.
