Current facilities of households in the French overseas departments close to metropolitan France equivalents, apart from in Mayotte
In 2017, the most common household appliances were, for the most part, as prevalent in the “old” overseas departments (Guadeloupe, Martinique, French Guiana, La Réunion) as in metropolitan France, although this was not true of either dishwashers or vacuum cleaners. Conversely, a higher percentage of households there have a freezer or air‑conditioner, which can be explained by the distinctive weather conditions of the overseas territories. Digital equipment is widespread, especially mobile phones which are as common as in metropolitan France. Although the order of the most widespread equipments in Mayotte was similar to that of the other territories, the ownership rates were lower, for all items of equipment.
