Inequalities in standards of living between 1996 and 2007
Inequalities in standards of living observed in surveys changed little between 1996 and 2007. The first standard of living decile increased more quickly than the ninth and the median. The 10% of people at the two extremes of the living standards distribution saw their proportion increase, while the proportion of the intermediate deciles declined. These changes do not take into account the individual increases or decreases in standards of living over the years: between 2003 and 2005, the standard of living of one person in three varied by more than 30%, either up or down. The inequalities were more pronounced when wealth is observed.
