Industry, trade and services - Local influences on self-employed income

Franck Evain, division Salaires et revenus d'activité, Insee

In 2005, the average annual gross income of self-employed workers in industry, trade and services was €32,000. This figure is higher in northern France, while there are more self-employed workers in the south of the country. The main conventional determiners of income are, in particular, economic sector and a person’s status as an employer, where applicable. In addition, the characteristics of the area in which the company is established, such as the wealth of the municipality or competition, have a significant influence on income.
