Business groups: a growing presence
Four business groups in ten own a business operation. Business groups represent half of the commercial workforce and added value. The presence of these business groups increased significantly between 1994 and 2003, and was accompanied by a greater foreign presence. Overall, financial concentration has increased recently. Three quarters of business groups specialise in their core business and employ 89% of their workforce in commercial activities. The groups vary considerably in size with the ten largest employing as many workers as the 10,000 micro-groups with fewer than 500 employees.
