Smaller and smaller households - Household projections for metropolitan France for the year 2030
Based on a hypothesis of birth, death, migration and cohabitation trend evolution, the average annual increase in the number of households between 2005 and 2030 could be between 236,000 and 261,000. This growth will be rapid during the first few years and will then slow down. By the year 2030, the number of households will have risen by 25% and the average number of people per household will be between 2.04 and 2.08, compared to 2.31 in 2005. This fall in household size is almost inevitable, largely due to the ageing population.
