Service companies go international
In 2003, 9% of business services companies exported their services, and these exports made up 9% of the sector's total turnover. Some services, such as engineering and computing, operated on the world market, whilst others, such as research and development or company administration, exported to companies in the same group located abroad. Conversely, other services focused primarily on the domestic market. The propensity of companies to export depended on their size, the localisation region and even their belonging to a group. Other things being equal, service companies in the fields of research and development, telecommunications, audiovisual activities, advertising and market studies, and computing, were more often exporters. In general, exports are extremely concentrated in a small number of large companies.
