The overall picture for the trade and repair of automobiles was quite positive in 2011 despite the phasing out of the scrappage allowance scheme at the end of 2010. Sales in the sector as a whole increased by 1.0% in volume and 3.7% in value. Sales in the automobile trade progressed by 2.2% in volume and 4.9% in value. These increases reflect the continuing recovery of the second-hand market after the drop in 2009, as well as an upswing in new car sales.
