In August 2012, new orders in industry increased (+0.8%)

New orders received in Industry – August 2012

Warning : “New orders received in industry – December 2012” will be the last issue of new orders index in industry.

New orders index has been issued since 2003 to meet a new European requirement. Eurostat intended to build a leading indicator of industrial production in the European Union. As the index obtained had not achieved its aim, Eurostat removed the requirement in 2012.

In order to cut the administrative burden on business, INSEE decided to no longer investigate new orders received monthly. Monthly business surveys will continue to provide qualitative information on the state of order levels in industry.

In August 2012, new orders received in industry (except heavy transport equipment) increased by 0.8%. They had decreased in July (-1.1%).

Non-domestic new orders were stable.

During the last three months, new orders decreased in industry (-2.1%)

During the last three months (q-o-q), new orders decreased in the “other manufacturing” sector (-2.7%) and in the “electrical and electronic equipment” sector (-2.5%). In contrast, new orders increased moderatly in the “manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers “ sector (+0.3%).

Compared to last year, new orders went down (-1.0 %)

The level of new orders during the last three months decreased by 1.0 % compared to last year. The level of non-domestic new orders increased significantly (+3.3%).
