In August 2010, the consumer price index (CPI) increased by 0.2%, after a decrease by 0.3% in July. Year-on-year, he was increasing by 1.4%.
The price index without tobacco increased also by 0.2% in August (+1.3% year-on-year).
Adjusted from the seasonal variations, the monthly change was steady (+1.4% year-on-year).
The rise of the August index came mainly from the increase of the prices of the manufactured products at the end of the summer sales and from the growth, also for seasonal reason, of the prices of services.
Those increases were partly counterbalanced by the seasonal weakening of the prices of fresh products. Energy prices were steady, the rise of electricity rates was offset by the decrease in prices of oil products.
In August, the prices of manufactured products were increasing by 1.0% (—0.4% year-on-year; +1.4% in August 2009).
The prices of food products edged dipped once again in August 2010 (—0.9%, after —0.5% in July; +1.3% year-on-year). This decline is mainly due to the seasonal weakening of the prices of fresh products (—7.5%, like in August 2009; +13.5% year-on-year). Prices of food products except fresh products increased slightly in August (+0.1%; —0.2% year-on-year).
For seasonal reason, the prices of services were rising in August 2010 (+0.2%). Year-on-year, the change reached +1.4% (+2.2% in August 2009).

In August, the energy prices were steady (+8.4% year-on-year). Actually, the rise of electricity rates (+1.6%; +2.8% year-on-year; +0.8% in August 2009) was counterbalanced by the decrease of the prices of oil products (—0.7%, after a decline by 1.1% in July; +9.7% year-on-year), in the wake of the recent declines of crude oil rates.
Core-inflation (ISJ) rose slightly in August 2010 (+0.1%).
However, year-on-year, core-inflation was decreasing once more, from 0.8% in July 2010 to 0.6% in August 2010.
The harmonised consumer price index (HCPI) was up by 0.2% (+1.6% year-on-year).
