Producer price indices in French industry

FRENCH MARKET: +0.9 % in January

French producer prices in industry on the French market progressed in January as in December by 0.9 %. For the fourth successive month, the rises were notable. This month, the growth of the “other manufactured products” contributed more to the total, the petroleum products prices less.

Refined petroleum products prices kept on increasing, but twice less fast than in December.

Refined petroleum products prices raised in January by 3.7 %, after the strong change (+7.9 %) recorded in December. The Brent still grew, but on a pace decelerated by the recovery of euro vs. dollar (+4.0 % in euro vs. +5.1 % in dollar). Prices of all refined petroleum products moved up, notably diesel oil (+4.1 %).

Food products prices increased...

Food products prices progressed for the second successive month by +0.5 % in January, after +0.7 % in December. In December, the increase was general. In January, the slight decrease of meat products (-0.3 %) and dairy products (-0.7 %) was counterbalanced by the marked rise of prepared animal feeds (+2.6 %) due to the repercussion of the rise of cereals quotations.

... and "other manufactured products" even more

For the "other manufactured products", the progression was fast (+0.9 %), drawn by the important increases of prices of organic basic chemicals (+6.7 %) and of plastics products (+3 %). The prices of basic metals still grew (+2.2 % for basic iron and steel and +3 % for precious metals).

FOREIGN MARKETS: +0.8 % in January

French producer prices in industry on the foreign markets progressed by +0.8 %, drawn by notable increases in chemicals and chemical products (+1.3%), basic metals and fabricated metal products (+1.7 %) and a slight rise in transport equipment (+0.3 %).

ALL MARKETS: +0.8 % in January

On all markets, the rise of industrial products prices was by +0.8 % in January. Year-on-year, the increase was by 5.2 % for the whole industry, of which by +4.5 % for the “other manufactured products” and by +4.4 % for the food products.

Import prices indices of industrial products: +1.1 % in January

Prices of imported industrial products progressed by 1.1 % in January (+1.5 % in December). The increase in crude petroleum products and in raw materials contributed again to the increase of the whole industry prices.
