In June, households’ expenditure in goods increased by 0.2% in volume*, after having decreased by 0.3% in May. Over the second quarter, they decreased by 1.8% (after +0.1% in Q1). The progression in June is mainly due to purchases in durables and textile-leather products.

Durables :increasing
After a slight decrease in May, households’ expenditure in durables increased in June (+2.5%). However, over the second quarter, they decreased by 6.3%, after +2.2% in Q1.
Car purchases increased by 2.2% in June, but don’t compensate the previous months’ declines (-11.2% over the second quarter). Purchases in household durables increased in June as well (+3.8%, but –0.6% over the second quarter), in particular furniture purchases were driven up by sales calendar.
Textile-leather : increasing as well
In June, purchases in textile and leather increased (+4.3%) after a decrease in May (-3.5%). This increase is partly imputable to sales calendar which have begun very early this year. In the second quarter, this item decreased by 0.3%, after -0.9%.
Other engineered goods : slightly increased
Expenditures in other engineered goods slightly increased in June (+0.7%, after -1.2% in May). They slightly decreased over the second quarter (-0.2%, after +0.6% in Q1).
In June, households’ expenditure in food products decreased (–0.4% after -1.4% in May). This led to an overall slight decrease in the second quarter (-0.1%, after +0.2% in Q1).
Consumption of energy products increased in June (+1.4%) after +5.0% in May. Over the second quarter, they decline nevertheless by 1.1% due to mild weather conditions in April.
