In March, households consumption in manufactured goods decreased by 0.7% in volume*, after having increased by 0.9% in February. Over the first quarter, these expenditures increased by 1.2% after +1.8% in 2010 Q4.

Expenditure in durables decreased in March (-1.0%) after +0.9% in February. Over the quarter, they increased by 2.5%, after +6.3% in 2010 Q4. In particular, car purchases are declining (-1.6% after +0.9% in February). They remain nevertheless dynamic over the first quarter (+2.3%, after +14.5% in 2010 Q4).
Expenditure in household durables decreased in March as well (-0.6% after +0.9% in February) caused in particular by a drop of furniture pruchases. They remain dynamic over the quarter (+2.6% after +0.6%).
In March, expenditure in textile decreased by 2.2% after a sharp increase in February (+4.1%), imputable to sales calendar which have lasted longer in February than usual. They increased over the first quarter (+0.8%, after -0.8% in 2010 Q4).
Expenditure in other manufactured goods slightly increased in March (+0.2%) after a decrease by 0.3% in February. The increase equals 0.5% over the quarter, after -0.1% at the end of 2010. Among these products, purchases of books, stationnery products and press notably step back.
In February, the change in consumption in manufactured goods is still estimated at +0.9%. The variation of expenditure in durables is revised by -0.1 point; car purchases are revised by -0.1 point and those in household durables are not revised. The change in consumption in textile expenditure is revised by -0.1 point. Expenditure in other manufactured goods are not revised.
These revisions are mainly due to the update of seasonal and working day adjustment. To a lesser extent, they are explained by new informations on other manufactured goods.
