In December, expenditures in durables increased (+3.6%) after a larger increase in November (+6.1%). Over the fourth quarter, these expenditures have increased by +6.6% after +1.0% in Q3.
This progression is imputable to car purchases (+8.6% after +14.1% in November, +15.4% over the quarter), rocketting before the scrappage program is cut off in January 1st. Nevertheless, the large drop in the first semester led to an overall decrease in 2010 : –3.0% after +7.9% in 2009.

The variation of expenditures in durables is revised by –0.5 point; car purchases are revised by -0.8 point and those in household durables by -0.2 point. These revisions are mainly due to the update of seasonal and working day adjustment. To a lesser extent, they are explained by new informations on other manufactured goods.
