In September, households’ consumption in manufactured goods increased by 1.5% in volume*, after having decreased by 1.6% in August. Over the third quarter, these expenditures increase by 1.2% after –0.8% in Q2.

In September, expenditures in durables strongly increased (+4.6%) after a decrease in August (–0.8%). Over the quarter, expenditures in durables renew with growth (+1.0% after –2.2% in Q2).
September’s increase is imputable to very dynamic car purchases (+11.2%), ending a continuous decline since the beginning of the year.
Expenditures in household durables are stable with respect to August (+0.0%). Purchases in electronics are supported by the resumption of progressive shift to numeric TV broadcast after a summer break. On the contrary, furniture expenditures decrease.
Households durables were dynamic in July (+2.0%) and slightly decreased in August (–0.3%). July’s progression is imputable to consumers electronics and furnitures and is partly explained by sales calendar, focused on July this year.
Over the third quarter, households durables purchases increase by 1.0% after +2.9% in Q2.
In September, expenditures in textile increase by 0.2% after a drop in August (–6.2%). Over the quarter these expenditures increased by 4.5% (after –2.1% in Q2) as sales started lately this year. Such a progression has not been seen since 1987 Q4.
Expenditures in other manufactured goods slightly increased in September (+0.1%) after a decrease in August (–0.3%). Over the quarter, these expenditures iincrease by 0.1%after +0.6% in Q2.
In August, the change in consumption in manufactured goods is still estimated at –1.6%. The variation of expenditures in durables is upscaled by 0.1 point; car purchases are revised by –0.3 point and those in household durables by +0.3 point. Textile expenditures are downgraded by 0.1 point. Expenditures in other manufactured goods are also downgraded by 0.1 point.
These revisions are mainly due to the update of seasonal and working day adjustment. To a lesser extent, they are explained by new informations on other manufactured goods.
