In January 2016, according to provisional estimates made at the end of the month, the Consumer Price Index should be down by 1.0% month-on-month, as in January 2015. Downward pressures on prices in January 2016 are likely to come mainly from the seasonal fall in prices of manufactured products, due to winter sales, and from a further drop in the prices of petroleum products.
Year-on-year, consumer prices are expected to rise by 0.2%, as in December 2015. This stability of inflation between December 2015 and January 2016 is likely to be a result of contrasting movements: on the one hand, food prices should slow down and on the other hand, the decrease in prices of manufactured products and energy should ease.
In January 2016, the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices is set to fall by 1.0% compared with the previous month. Year-on-year, it should rise by 0.4% after +0.3% in December 2015.
Warning: These provisional results are only preliminary data. Accordingly, they should not be used for contractual revaluations. The indexes published here are based on a limited set of price observations and from estimates of some rates of change for fares which are not yet available. The complete results will be published on 18 February 2016.
From now, the CPI is published with a reference year 2015=100. Further information on all these changes are available on the web page of this indicator.
