Services Producer Price Indices : slight increase in the first quarter of 2012
In the first quarter of 2012, services prices were generally trending upwards. It was the case for the legal activities, employment services, rental services and news agencies. On the opposite, telecommunications services prices decreased again, according to their long term trend.
Information and communication
Prices for news agencies increased
Prices for news agencies were still trending upwards in this quarter (+3.1 %), increasing by 5.9 % year-over-year. Prices for telecommunications services fell (-1.7 % in the fourth quarter of 2011 and -3.3 % year-over-year). Over a one-year period, prices for software publishing increased by 4.3 %, but declined slightly in this quarter.
Professional, scientific and technical services
Prices were stable, except for legal services
The year 2012 began with prices which were once again almost unchanged. Prices for legal services were the only ones to increase significantly (+0.6 % quarter-over-quarter, +2.6 % year-over-year).
Administrative and support services
Prices have been rising for a year
Prices for employment services remained on an upward trend in this first quarter of 2012 (+0.4 % quarter-over-quarter and +2.5 % year-over-year). Other prices increased significantly in this quarter, except those for rental of motor vehicles (-0.7 %) and for call centres (+0.2 %), but these two prices grew up markedly year-over-year (respectively +2.0 % and +1.6 %).
