In June, manufacturing production decreased by 1.3%

In June 2010, the manufacturing production decreased by 1.3% in volume. It had increased by 0.6% in May. In the industry, the production decreased also in June (-1.7% after 1.9% in May).

In the last three months (quarter-on-quarter change), the production rose in the manufacturing sector (+1.3%) as well as in the industry as a whole (+0.8%).

In the last three months, the manufacturing production increased by 1.3%…

During the quarter, the production was boosted by the “other manufacturing” (+1.8% q-o-q), the electrical, electronic equipment and machine equipment (+2.6%) and the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+6.4%). However, it decreased in the manufacture of transport equipment (-1.1).

…and exceeded the last year’s level by 7.1%

The manufacturing production rose by 7.1% (y-o-y).

It soared in the “other manufacturing” (+9.0%) and in the manufacture of transport equipment (+13.9%). It also increased in the electrical and electronic equipment and machine equipment (+3.3%).

Please note: all the data are adjusted for seasonal variations (SA) and the number of days worked (WDA).

In June, the production decreased in the manufacture of transport equipment (–6.0 %)…

In June, the production decreased in the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (–7.4 %) and in the manufacture of other transport equipment (–4.7 %).

… in the « other manufacturing » (-0.8 %)…

The production decreased in the manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products (-1.7 %), in the manufacture of rubber and plastics products, and other non-metallic mineral products (-1.2 %). It also decreased in the wood and paper products; printing and reproduction of recorded media field (-1.5 %) and in the manufacture of textiles, wearing apparel, leather and related products (-1.2 %).

The production is almost stable in the manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (–0.1 %) and lightly increased in the manufacture of chemicals and chemical products (+ 0.6 %).

… and is almost stable in the electrical or electronic equipment and the machine equipment (-0.2 %)

The production decreased in the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (–1.0 %) and in the manufacture of electrical equipment (-0.9 %).

On the contrary, it increased in the manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c. (+1.1 %).

Revisions

The SA-WDA evolution between April and May of the manufacturing production published during the previous campaign was +0.5 %. It has been revised at +0.6 %. The raw datas’ revisions are due to industries‘ belated answers, notably in the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products, the electrical equipment and the manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations.

Note of reading : in the manufacturing, the SA-WDA evolution between April and May is revised by 0.002 point, changing the rounded evolution from 0.5 % to 0.6 % : 0.51 is due to the raw serie's revision and -0.51 to the new calculation of the SA-WDA.
