FAQ : What is a file in Beyond format?

Answer

Beyond 20/20® Professional Browser is a Canadian software program, selected by INSEE to support a large proportion of the data we disseminate. The program allows the visual display of data.

The two main types of files are:

  • the microdata file called «extract,» which, in Beyond 20/20®, is a survey file in coded and compressed form. From a microdata file, the user can create personalized multidimensional tables. Microdata files have an .ivx extension.
  • the table, which is an enhanced predefined data table. It offers an integrated presentation of multidimensional data and descriptive text. A table contains variables called «dimensions,» modalities of variables called «items,» and data values. It may comprise up to ten dimensions. Each of the table's dimensions and articles is documented, as is the table itself. Tables have an .ivt extension.

You will find fuller information and a «getting started» guide on our Beyond 20/20® page.
