SIRET unit

Definition

In the SIRENE database, the SIRET unit is the establishment (local unit), defined as a distinct geographical site where all or part of a SIREN unit's activity is carried out. All establishments receive a SIRET number, even for a legal unit that operates just one establishment. A number assigned to a company establishment is never used for another establishment of that company.

The SIRET unit is linked to the person in the legal sense. If more than one SIREN unit perform their activity in the same place, they are operating that many different SIRET units. The SIRET unit is localised. A SIREN unit is made up of as many SIRET units as there are different sites on which it carried out its activity.

Note

The SIRET unit is linked to the entity in the legal sense; if there is a change of legal personality, there is a change of SIREN and therefore a change of SIRET. There are as many different SIRETs as there are places where an activity is conducted.
