Pedagogical integration units

Definition

Created initially by certain middle schools for pre-teens or teenagers (aged 11 to 16) with different forms of mental disability who might benefit, in an ordinary school environment, from schooling adapted to their age and abilities and to the nature and scale of their disability.

Circular n°95_125 of 17 May 1995 extended the principle of their creation to pupils with sensory or motor deficiencies and encouraged their creation in middle schools but also in high schools.

At the start of the school year 2010, the UPI was replaced by the " Units localized for school inclusion " (ULIS; circular N 2010-088 of June 18th, 2010).
