Natural population surplus rate

Definition

The natural population surplus rate (or natural increase rate) is the population growth rate attributable to the natural change in the population, i.e. that which results from births and deaths only. It is calculated as the ratio between the natural increase over a given period and the average population over that period. It is also equal to the difference between the birth rate and the mortality rate.
