Unemployment rate

Definition

The unemployment rate is the percentage of unemployed people in the labour force (occupied labour force + the unemployed). An unemployment rate per age can be calculated by calculating the ratio of the unemployed persons in an age group to the labour force of the said age. Likewise, unemployment rates can be calculated by sex, by socioprofessional category, by region, by nationality, by qualification level, etc.

Note

The unemployment rate is different from the share of unemployment which measures the proportion of unemployed people in the population as a whole.
