Madrid system

Definition

The Madrid System offers the holder of a trademark the possibility to have their trademark protected in several countries by filing a single application directly to their national or regional Office. This system is administered by the World Intellectual property Organisation (WIPO) in Geneva, Switzerland.

An international trademark registered in this way produces the same effects in the countries designated in it as those of a registration or application filed directly by the applicant in each of the said countries.
