Supermarket

Definition

A supermarket is an establishment for self-service retail sales with more than two thirds of its turnover in foodstuffs, and a sales area of between 400 and 2,500 m².

Note

The sales areas differ according to States:
- Germany from 400 to 1 000 m2;
- Belgium, Denmark, Spain, Italy, Luxembourg from 400 to 2 500 m2;
- Greece, Portugal from 200 m2;
- Ireland, Great Britain until 2 323 m2;
- Netherlands on average 300 m2.
