Definition

Inpatient care includes all short and long-stay services (treatment and accommodation) provided by hospitals in the public and private sectors. Inpatient care includes practitioners’ fees payable when a patient receives a course of inpatient treatment entirely in the private sector; external consultations with staff from public hospitals are not included.
