Address control list / ACL

Definition

The address control list (ACL) is a geographic database including all the addresses and their geographic location of the municipalities of 10,000 inhabitants and over. It contains the addresses of houses, SIRENE establishments, communities and, in the medium term, urban facilities.

Made up from the information gathered in the 1999 population census, this register is updated using:

- planning permission files ;
- the register of enterprises and their establishments (SIRENE) ;
- Post Office files ;
- administrative files containing an address (that INSEE is authorised to use).

It is also kept up to date by continuous exchanges of geographic information with the municipalities concerned. The ACL is in direct relation with the road names in the statistical block database. This list serves as a sampling basis for census surveys.
