Wood harvest

Definition

The harvest of wood marketed by foresters is known thanks to the annual survey of the "forest harvesting" activity branch by the Statistics and Forecasting Department (SSP) of the Ministry of Agriculture.
The on-the-spot consumption of firewood is not taken into account in this survey but can be estimated by comparing successive inventories in the National Forestry Inventory (IFN). The current annual increase of forests behind this production of timber (without it being possible to assimilate the two) is accounted for in the National Forestry Inventory (IFN) drawn up each year for the entire metropolitan territory (new method in force since 2005).
