Global warming potential / GWP

Definition

Global warming potential or power (GWP) is an indicator aimed at including in a single value the added effect of all the substances contributing to the greenhouse effect.
By convention, for the moment this is limited to the direct greenhouse effect gases (GEG), namely the six gases taken into account (CO2, CH4, N2O, CFC, HFC, SF6) in the Kyoto Protocol.
This indicator is expressed in "CO2 equivalent" because by definition the greenhouse effect attributed to CO2 is set at 1 and that of the other substances relative to CO2.
