Share of the unemployed
Definition
The share of the unemployed is the proportion of the unemployed in the total population.
This indicator is lower than the unemployment level which measures the proportion of unemployed only within the labour force. It is used to offset the very high level of unemployment in the under-25 age group. As a large number of young people are studying and relatively few have a job, their unemployment level is very high whereas the proportion of unemployed within that age group is much lower.
