National Forest Inventory / IFN

Definition

The National Forest Inventory (IFN) was created in 1958 to achieve a better understanding of the potential of the French forests. It is responsible for conducting an ongoing inventory of national forest resources, irrespective of any questions of ownership (Article R 521-1 of the Forest Code). The IFN became a public administrative institution under the responsibility of the Ministry for Forests in 1994.
