The general electoral roll

Definition

The purpose of the general electoral roll, administered by INSEE, is to check that a person identified by their civil status is registered only once, on the electoral roll of one town. It is also intended to ensure that a person is able to vote. INSEE is required, on the basis of this register, to inform towns of any decline in electoral capacity.

Note

The general electoral roll is maintained by INSEE in application of Article L37 of the electoral code.
