Definition

The concept of marital status refers to the conjugal status of a person in the eyes of the law: single, married, widowed, divorced. In Census surveys, the legal marital status corresponds to that declared by the respondents. There may therefore be differences between the responses given and the legal status of the person in question. The free union or the connection by Pacs does not constitute a legal marital status.
