Carried out by INSEE, the aim of the Health Survey (or ten-year health survey) is to describe the health status of the French populace and estimate the level of individual consumption of health care and preventive measures. It also deals with themes of social security, medical and surgical history, time off work for health reasons, disability issues and dietary habits and preventive measures.
The most recent Health Survey took place in 2002-2003: around 25,000 households were surveyed. The first survey of this kind conducted by INSEE dates from 1960-1961, and since then the Health Survey has been carried out every ten years or so.
