Survey conducted on persons frequenting residential shelters or free restaurants/ Homeless Survey 2001

Definition

The survey of persons frequenting residential shelters and free restaurants, or the ‘Homelessness 2001’ survey, was carried out by INSEE in 2001, on people regularly using temporary accommodation services or hot meal distribution points. The aim of the survey is to better understand the economic and social situations of people without abode, as well as the series of events which led to their homelessness.

It is the first and only survey of homeless people conducted by INSEE. 4,000 respondents of over 18 years of age were surveyed in 80 urban centres in metropolitan France.
