Definition

The purpose of the Life Story Survey was to assess the way in which each individual conceives of his relation to others and to French society at the beginning of the 21st century, considered from two different angles: past history and current situation. The survey considers the different aspects of the social life of individuals (employment, place of residence, leisure activities etc.) and the social links established throughout life (professional situation, leisure activities, ethical engagement, discrimination etc.). The Life Story Survey was conducted by INSEE in 2003 on a sample of around 13,500 individuals in metropolitan France.
