Misdemeanour

Definition

An offence judged by the correctional court as punishable by a prison sentence (which may not exceed 10 years), a fine, a day-fine, a citizenship course, community service, a sentence that removes or restricts freedoms (suspension or cancellation of a driving licence or hunting permit, confiscation, no issuing of cheques, prohibition to perform certain professional activities, etc.) or an additional sentence.

When a misdemeanour is punished by imprisonment, it may be replaced by an alternative sentence.
